Rand Fanshier Announces Bid for HD 13
###START PRESS RELEASE###
May 25, 2004
Rand Fanshier announces his bid for Colorado House District 13. This
district includes Clear Creek, Gilpin, and West Boulder County.
Statement from Rand:
I believe that America is great, but not because of government. America
is great because for most of her history, her people were self-reliant and
their efforts were not taxed or regulated away. America is great because
her people were free! Now close your eyes, and imagine tomorrow waking up,
free to do today anything you want as long as it doesn't take away anyone
else's right to do the same. You don't have to ask permission!
This is my vision for us in Colorado.
For Me, It's Personal. Colorado is one of the last great Free States,
with an attitude of liberty as it was understood by America's founding
fathers. That's why I moved here, years ago. But what I discovered is that
native Coloradoans don't seem to have a good defense against big
government types that are moving in from the East and West coasts. That's
why I am running for government office. I'll fight those who want to
control you, and make sure government is the very smallest part of our
lives. Let's return to the spirit of the old West! Or at least let's
return to the constitutionally limited government designed by America's
founding fathers.
WHAT LIBERTARIANS LIKE ME BELIEVE:
THE CORE PRINCIPLE - INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM
Never force another person to your will.
GUIDELINES FOR RESTORING INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM -
Freedom must be given in order to be received. Pay your own way, and
right your own wrongs. Individual liberty demands personal responsibility.
Possession of a thing is never a crime. Until emancipated, your children
are yours to raise. Regulation of trade between adults is unacceptable.
Government taxes on property are unacceptable. Government taxes on income
are unacceptable. Donations and usage fees pay for common services.
Restitution before punishment. Persuasion instead of coercion.
As a State Representative I will vote in accordance with the
libertarian principle of individual freedom. The voters can expect me to
influence the State Assembly in a libertarian direction by being the
tie-breaker in matters of public policy. This will allow me to wield
greater influence than might be expected from a minority party in the
Colorado House of Representatives.
As the election year proceeds, I will be writing a series of articles
to explain and de-mystify our government, how it works, how it derives
revenue, and how the money is spent. I will focus on ways to reduce the
size, scope and reach of the government. These articles will be available
at my web page http://www.randfreedom.org and free for publication by
state and local media.
