Less Government, More Common Sense!

Hello, I am Rand Fanshier, and with your help I can win the election this November 7, 2006 for Colorado State House of Representatives, District 13.

I'll get the government out of your life.
My esteemed opponent would make the government even bigger than it is today.
So, whom are you going to vote for?

We mountain residents pride ourselves on being independent and responsible.  I bet that you want a representative with those same values!  Take heed:  Liberals like my opponent want to take your earnings and tell you what to do.  I am your best defense against them!  And I'm better than a conservative, because I will not legislate morality or tell you what you can possess or use.

Freedom.  Now how about that?

The guiding principle that will direct my actions as an assemblyman for Colorado House District 13 is simple:  Peaceful people retain all their rights, and the government should have no power to force them to do anything.

Let me explain using former President Ronald Reagan's words from his early political career (when he was still a Democrat):

“Rather than Communists and Marxists on the extreme ‘Left’ and Nazis and Fascists on the extreme ‘Right,’ I think the political spectrum should be ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ – Up towards individual freedom and Down towards control of the individual by the State. The extreme Up would be Anarchy, no government at all, while the extreme Down, at the bottom of the spectrum, would be all forms of totalitarianism: both Fascism and Communism, Nazism and Marxism, which together in common advocate the abolishment of individual freedom. On this spectrum, I place myself on the Up side, not an anarchist, but as an advocate of individual liberty in accordance with a constitutional democracy and rule of law. - Address at UCLA Student Union, October, 1965

I concur with this political analysis, and I am a Libertarian.
My party is called the Libertarian Party (National) (State).

And because there is a political party today that best represents this point of view, my principles will not evaporate into mostly rhetoric as Reagan's unfortunately did through the years, hopping between the Democrats and the Republicans looking in vain for a home.

What you can expect from me is to return to you and your neighbors more freedom (and responsibility) than my opponent for this important legislative seat ever will.  I will represent you, in a return to traditional, American values of independence and liberty, to get the government off of our backs and out of our pockets.  My opponent will contrive to take more of the fruits of your labor, and regulate the engine of commerce so that your community is the poorer.  I will put choice back in your hands, so that you may decide with your feet, and vote with your dollars--instead of empowering decision makers in a centralized form of government.

But that means responsibility and taking care of your business without the aid (or the intervention) of the State.

Very little will change at first.  A lone Libertarian in the State Capitol has little hope of producing any kind of radical change.  However, with a narrow divide between R's and D's, the press and decision makers will be wondering about what Libertarian Rand Fanshier, who sides neither left nor right, has to say.  "What is the Libertarian Position on this important piece of legislation?"  And that can only be healthy for our political process.

Please vote for a fresh change.  Let's end crony politics as usual, and get back to the idea of the land of the free, and to America as a beacon of light, a place to work and play and live and let live--rather than an institutionalized bureaucracy.

I'll get the government off your back.
Neither Republicans nor Democrats will--but you already know this to be true.  If they wanted smaller government, we would have it already.

everybody else.  -Frederic Bastiat, French Economist (1801-1850)

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.  -Ronald Reagan (1986)

No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session. -Mark Twain (1866)
